Eva's P.e Leaning Story

Eva’s P.E Learning Story.

“There may be people that have more talent than you, but there is no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do.
(Quote by Derek Jeter)

Our P.E is purpose is to...
“Expect the best from ourselves and each other when we play team sports”.

During the past few weeks for P.E my class has been having amazing learning experiences while playing dodgeball and working our way up to softball by playing rounders and then t ball.

While playing these sports we had a really fun time. In rounders I thought I was good at...
  • Calling out our team mates names to help relay the ball in.
  • Have team talks to discuss our strategies.
  • Trying our best and never giving up.
  • Sharing the ball.

I was good at these because I never gave up and I kept giving it my all even if my team wasn’t. If you don’t know what rounders is let me tell you a little bit about it. There are two teams one is feilding and one is throwing. Someone from the throwing team throws the ball then has to run around all four bases as many times as they can. If the fielding team catches the ball the thrower is out. The only time the runner has to stop running is when the ball has come back to base one. It is basically like softball without a bat and some slightly different rules.

The K.C skill that I think I used well for this game was…
Participating and contributing because I put all my effort in to the game and never stopped trying.

I think my next steps with this game is to spread out when my team is feilding, also try to catch the ball and get people out. I will do this by not being afraid of the ball and going in to a space and that will make it harder for the runner.

In T ball I think I was good at…
  • Calling out our team mates names to help relay the ball in.
  • Sharing the ball.
  • Support each other by cheering and giving out high fives.
  • Try our best and never give up.
  • Including and encouraging our team mates.

I was good at these because I took on leadership roles by making sure everyone was having fun, playing fairly and no one was left out. T ball is just like softball, but you don’t pitch the ball, the ball is sitting on a little stand that makes it easy to hit.

The K.C skill that I think I used well was relating to others…
by explaining things to then that they might not understand, helping them when they need help, calling out for the ball, and encouraging them when they are batting.

My next steps would be to think more strategically by making sure that there are no gaps for the batter to bat the ball, making sure I hit the ball in an open space and trying to run as fast as I can. The way I will achieve this is not worrying where the ball is going and just running my heart out, making sure everyone is in there own space so that there are not gaps, and looking for an open space and hitting the ball into that direction.

In dodgeball I think I was good at...
  • Sharing the ball.
  • Helping others.
  • Thinking strategically.
  • Trying my best and never giving up.

I was good at this because I would not give up even when my whole team was out and I was the only one in. Everyone knows what dodge ball is right? Yeah I thought so, I won’t have to explain this to you.

The K.C skill I think I used was thinking...
because I had to think of ways to help my team win and to get the other team out faster.

I think my next steps would by to step out of my comfort zone a bit more because I don’t really like being hit with balls but I guess it’s all part of life. I think I will do this by just going for it trying my best and if I get hit just keep playing.

P.E is not one of my favorite subjects. I don’t mind it but when I am playing against really serious and competitive people I don’t really like it. I guess it’s all part of trying new things, what my family always say “suck it up, get on your feet and keep playing”.

My first class was art, it was really fun because we got to learn different types of art and new things to create, e.g clay titles, ink printing, surrealist collage, carving e.t.c. It was good opportunity to.

Something I found challenging was making my clay tiles because my clay had gone a bit dry because I had left it out for a bit to long. It was breaking apart and not sticking together. After using the warmth of my hands to help it stick, it finally worked and I got it into the perfect shape.

I loved making the ink prints because it was such a new way to show my learning, and it was really fun. It also taught me how to use carving tools carefully and so that it does not damage your wood tile. I love the way my one turned out because it showed my identity and what means the most to me.

I would have liked to learn how to draw realistically by learning how to draw cartoons even better, because it was really creative and it means that we don’t have to make everything perfect.

My next stop is hard materials...

Eva' Writing Learning Story

Eva’s writing learning story.

“Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing”

(Quote by Benjamin Franklin)

At the begin of term one we had started to learn how to create a piece of writing that communicate our identity effectively. We started off by making a brainstorm using different tools e.g mind mup, coggle, paper e.t.c. Once we had finished that we started to make a draft of what we wanted people to know about yourself.

To make this a good piece of writing we had to use the success criteria e.g

  • Use a hook- to hook your readers in.
  • Maybe use another way of making our reader want to read more, like… (ellipses), or only giving a little information at once.
  • Making our readers work something out (infer) by
Using anecdotes and examples-stories from the plast.
  • Using an unusual writing style (poem, news report…)
  • Use cleaver dialogue.
  • Punctuation
  • Carefully choose languages- everyday languages/ languages we use with our friends. The k.c skill I use was managing self by choosing a good place to sit and working with people I know will help me, not distract me. Another k.c skill I used was relating to others by getting other peoples feedback to help improve my story.

I think I was good at making my writing detailed, by adding some childhood stories, and writing lots of interesting things about myself to keep the reader hooked in. I was also good at using a hook to hook the reader in, by asking my reader a question e.g (do you want to get to know me?) I involved the reader in my story.

Something I got better at was using show not tell so that my reader was able to infer something about myself. I did that because I did not want to give them all the information and I wanted them to think about it and work something out, for e.g Well it all started 12 years ago on the 27 of february 2006”. From this my reader was able to work out that I was 12 years old.

Something that I found hard was trying to use the right words e.g not giving everything away by tell them things but not everything, and making sure it’s interesting. When I found that hard I got help from my teachers and my friends and that was really helpful.

My next steps would be to work on using more show don’t tell. I will achieve this by trying to use more of it in our other writing stories and maybe by doing some of it at home.

Eva's Reading Learning Story

Eva’s Reading Learning Story

“The more things you read the more things you know. The more that you learn the more places you’ll go”. (Quote by Dr. Seuss)
Reading can take you on a journey that you never imagined, you will experience things know one else has experienced. Keep reading and you will find out things about my reading.

The book that had caught my interest was called “Kisses from hell”, as you could tell from the title it is a romance and drama book. My book has five different stories in it, that all have a little connection. The authors are Kristin Cast, Alyson Noel, Kelly Armstrong, Richelle mead, and Frances Lia Block and my book is a fiction, its purpose is to keep me hooked in all the way through and my book achieved that.

The first story that I was reading was called “sunshine by Richelle Mead”. When I was trying to understand the text I went back and read it over and over again to try and make it easier to understand. I also had to look at my bookmark to try locate, evaluate, infer, analyse and synthesise, e.g I used evaluating to help understand it so I had to imagine that I was Rhea (the main girl character). If I was her and a lot of boys were fighting over me then I would feel annoyed because I would not like to be dragged around like that.

While I was reading this text I had to locate information to find out more about the stories when it ended, I had to use this skill because the authors left me wanting to read on, I had to predict the rest of the story. Reading is one of my best strengths I love it so much and I will never stop.
