Kapa Haka Learning Story.

Kapa Haka Learning Story.

“He aroha whakato,
he aroha puta mai.
If kindness is shown
Then kindness you shall receive.”

Out of breath is how we felt, red marks over the boys and sore throats for the girls. This is how we felt after the Kapa Haka exchange with Windley and Rangikura. We put the effort in the practices and gave it our all in the performance.

We had been practicing for 3 terms, on the 8th week of Term 3 we had it perfected. An 11 song medley a Whakaheke, Hareruia, Human and an old haka called Kapanapana.

During the performance, I felt alive hearing everyone's voice combined into a perfect harmony. It was heaven. Even the haka parts, It may have been loud but it was amazing to hear everyone joining in.

Something I found exciting was watching the other performances because we all had something different to share. It was like 3 completely different whanau that had one thing that was alike. One thing the tied us together Kapa Haka.

Something I think my group needs to work on is discipline because some of us aren’t giving our all. It’s like we have some day where we want to do it and some days where we don’t. But Kapa Haka is a taonga, something we have to treasure because you never know how special it is until it’s gone.

I also think that we should stick to the songs and hakas we know we have perfected because during the performance we didn’t really know Kapanapana or Human. In my opinion, I think it sort of ruined it because we weren't giving our all because we didn’t know it.

I think I could have done better because in some parts I was being sloppy with my actions and not giving my all. Other than that, I think I was good at singing the words and using my expression for e.g, Pukana, Relaxed face, and Smiling.

Eva's Reading Learning Story.

Eva’s Reading Learning Story.

“You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book.

The book that I choose was “girls in tears”. This book hooked me in by the genre because I really like Romance and drama books and the book had both genres.

My book is a fiction book. I really like fiction books because they are made up and are not speaking just the truth. It gives me an easier way to make a picture in my head.

I think the purpose of my book and lots of other books is to connect to the words on the page and make meaning from it, you can also learn from what you read because it helps you develop in your writing skills.

The book was written by “Jacqueline Wilson” she writes lots of books about kids, all very different but the same in one way or another.

The blurb in this book was really interesting because it made me want to read more. It gave me a little bit of information but made it really interesting and exciting. This is a little bit of the blurb.

“Ellie, Magda, and Nadine are back- but they’re not very happy! Ellie's glorious romance with Russell is teetering by the rocks. Magda’s lost her pet and is desperately upset (though the others didn’t even know she still had a hamster!). Nadine is fed up with the others to lecturing her about the dangers of meeting someone on the internet.

I think this book would be good for anyone who likes lots of drama and a little bit of romance just to balance it out.

While I was reading I located information so I found out that the friends don’t have the same bond that they used to and neither does Ellie and Russell. It was breaking apart and then slowly growing again.

After reading this book I really wanted to read more of her books including the rest of the series for e.g, Girls out late, girls in love”, and more.

Reading has taken me on an extravagant journey through girls problems, to making someone eat GREEN EGGS AND HAM!

Reading is probably one of the most enjoyable things to do, it’s relaxing and if your bored of reality jump into a book and go transform.
