Eva's Maths Learning Story.

Eva’s Maths Learning story.

“Obvious is the most dangerous word in mathematics.” (Quote by E.T Bell).

3cm

4.5cm

The problem is asking us to find how many milk cartons can fit in the square box, for e.g what is the volume.

First I multiplied the width, length, and height of the square box. The answer we got was 30,490. We multiplied it together so we could find how wide it was, how tall it was and what the length is.

I did the same to the milk carton to find how big the milk carton was. I got 135.

After that, I wanted to find how many milk cartons would fit in the square box. So I tried to multiply it but then I realized that if I multiply it I would be way too much. So I tried it divide it. The answer I got was 225.86666, then I knew the if you get a number like that then you don’t have to worry about the numbers after the point, so the answer I got was 225.

In my group I think I was good at asking questions for e.g, asking them to explain again, asking them to tell me in an easier way. This helped me to understand my groups thinking and how they help me work it out.

I think I am getting better at sharing the pen, by giving others a chance to share their thinking, so that we all have different ideas that will help us solve the problem.

I feel confident when I share my ideas because I know that it doesn’t matter if my answer is wrong because it might spark someone else's ideas.

Sometimes I find it hard to work on the problem if my whole group isn’t on board because it can be a distraction for me and the rest of my group that is trying to solve the problem. Something I will start doing about that is encouraging them to help us and not distract us.

The K.C skill I used well in maths is participating and contributing because even when the problem is hard I don’t give up and I keep trying to share different ideas even if it’s not right.

The K.C skill I need to work on is relating to others by asking if my group understand the problem, or if they need me to explain it in a different way.

Apart from that, I think I have grown a lot in maths and I hope I keep growing.

Titi's Feedback: You need to work on not blabbing the answers out and to not grab the pen and write your brainy ideas down. You are good at relating to others by asking them if they understand, sharing your clever, clever, clever ideas, handling different roles in your maths group and helping your peers in your group when you and your group share back.
