Bullying Note.

Have you ever been bullied? Well if you have now is a time to stand up for yourself and others.

A girl name Emma Brookland was bullied by some girls from her high school. Every day she had to put up with them calling her names and stealing her lunch. One day it got to her, she went home and started to write, horrible things about herself. She was so sad, each and everyday day it got worse. She began writing suicide note saying,

“Dear diary I hate my life just as much as everyone hates me. My life has gone to waste I don’t even know why I’m still here. Today might be the last thing I write”.

She did it for days.

“Dear diary everyone hates me, they call me names and tell me to kill myself. I don’t know what to do. I could cut, that might take the pain away”.

So every day she wrote - day after day after day until her parents were asking her questions about why her grades had gone down so low. Her mum caught a glimpse of her arm. (“they saw the marks of pain and hurt”) They had a good talk about it, but their words did not help, because as long as she was hurting the bully was happy and she was fine. She continued to keep writing for it was the only thing that kept her going.

“Dear diary today at school was even worse my bully started to chuck things at me. I can’t do much about it because I have become very weak due to the amount of blood that I have lost the past couple weeks. I don’t think I can take it anymore”.

She went out to lounge and sat on the couch. Her parents had gone out to get dinner. As she sat there the bad memories came all she heard was people shouting, “die. Kill yourself. No One likes you”. She rushed to her room and grabbed her diary and wrote one last word. “Dear diary BYE”.

This is a message to people who have got bullied or are getting bullied. Get help.  Tell someone you trust. Stop bullying it’s not good, people get hurt sometimes even worse. So please look out for yourself and others, also don’t be a side liner just don’t let it happen. Don’t let anyone get the best of you, sometimes all it takes is for someone to reach out.

Eva's Leavers Legacy in a Different Perspective.

Eva’s leavers legacy.

Eva was a shining student. She had many qualities. For example; Confident, positive, excited for learning, friendship, and she was always a role model for kids younger than her.

Henceforth the reason why we chose her to get the leadership award. She has proved herself to us teachers and to lots of others in the school.

When times got hard for her she pushed through it and just thought about the positive.

A message she would like to leave Corinna is…

“Keep your head high in times of negativity, give your all and negativity will turn in to positivity.” Quote my Eva Bishop.

Eva's Leavers Legacy.

Eva’s leavers legacy 2018

One of the most important things I have achieved at Corinna was the leadership award. The reason why I think it’s the most important is that I strived for that award. I wanted it so bad. Which means I have met my goal and I have worked my hardest to be where I am today.

Some people who have helped me to achieve my goals were my friends. They helped by pushing me to my limits and helping me when I needed it the most. My teachers and principal have also been a big part of my learning. For example; Ardelle, Helen, Kate, Sophia, and Miss Whiting. They pushed me to make the right decisions to get me what I want and need. “Great teachers empathize with kids, respect them, and believe that each one has something special that can be built upon” (Quote by Ann Lieberman).

A great experience for me was Kapa Haka. I think this was a great experience because we have been through so much. We’ve cried together, laughed together and had much fun time.

I would like to be remembered as a leader of the school. Someone who may have had a few mistakes, but I want people to know that I got past those mistakes and strived for greatness. I want kids to look up to me in a good way and remember me for all those things.

I would like to thank my teachers Helen and Ardelle who had to put up with me sharing all my work to them every single day (and night!). Asking for new things to do and for them for just being there for me. I would like to say a great BIG thank you. I would also like to say thanks to all my friends who have to put up with me being a big drama queen. Being really annoying and for bragging to them about lots and lots of things. You guys have been there for me every day for that I’m grateful to have you’s if I could do it all again I would. I don’t regret any of it.

A Moment in Time Production Story.

A Moment in Time Production Story.

As the spotlight made its way back to my group, we stood and walked seamlessly towards the center of the stage. My heart starts racing with joy. It’s my last line. Make the most of it!

“STOP WE HAVE SOMETHING WE NEED TO SHOW YOU!”
And that was the line over and done with.

Now for the dance. I could hear the music getting louder and louder. It was time, time to get into the dancing spirit. I was puffed, sweat dripping down my face, with blushed cheeks, and body aches.

Every action was big, well bigger than expected. I was just so excited I couldn’t hold it in. One thing I loved about our dance was that we were all having so much fun. I don’t know if we made a mistake and even if we did I don’t think our audience knew.

After the production, I felt proud. I said all my lines with a confident and clear voice. Everyone played their part amazingly. Some feedback I got was to look up when I am saying my lines. Other than that we did amazing.

Kapa Haka Learning Story.

Kapa Haka Learning Story.

“He aroha whakato,
he aroha puta mai.
If kindness is shown
Then kindness you shall receive.”

Out of breath is how we felt, red marks over the boys and sore throats for the girls. This is how we felt after the Kapa Haka exchange with Windley and Rangikura. We put the effort in the practices and gave it our all in the performance.

We had been practicing for 3 terms, on the 8th week of Term 3 we had it perfected. An 11 song medley a Whakaheke, Hareruia, Human and an old haka called Kapanapana.

During the performance, I felt alive hearing everyone's voice combined into a perfect harmony. It was heaven. Even the haka parts, It may have been loud but it was amazing to hear everyone joining in.

Something I found exciting was watching the other performances because we all had something different to share. It was like 3 completely different whanau that had one thing that was alike. One thing the tied us together Kapa Haka.

Something I think my group needs to work on is discipline because some of us aren’t giving our all. It’s like we have some day where we want to do it and some days where we don’t. But Kapa Haka is a taonga, something we have to treasure because you never know how special it is until it’s gone.

I also think that we should stick to the songs and hakas we know we have perfected because during the performance we didn’t really know Kapanapana or Human. In my opinion, I think it sort of ruined it because we weren't giving our all because we didn’t know it.

I think I could have done better because in some parts I was being sloppy with my actions and not giving my all. Other than that, I think I was good at singing the words and using my expression for e.g, Pukana, Relaxed face, and Smiling.

Eva's Reading Learning Story.

Eva’s Reading Learning Story.

“You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book.

The book that I choose was “girls in tears”. This book hooked me in by the genre because I really like Romance and drama books and the book had both genres.

My book is a fiction book. I really like fiction books because they are made up and are not speaking just the truth. It gives me an easier way to make a picture in my head.

I think the purpose of my book and lots of other books is to connect to the words on the page and make meaning from it, you can also learn from what you read because it helps you develop in your writing skills.

The book was written by “Jacqueline Wilson” she writes lots of books about kids, all very different but the same in one way or another.

The blurb in this book was really interesting because it made me want to read more. It gave me a little bit of information but made it really interesting and exciting. This is a little bit of the blurb.

“Ellie, Magda, and Nadine are back- but they’re not very happy! Ellie's glorious romance with Russell is teetering by the rocks. Magda’s lost her pet and is desperately upset (though the others didn’t even know she still had a hamster!). Nadine is fed up with the others to lecturing her about the dangers of meeting someone on the internet.

I think this book would be good for anyone who likes lots of drama and a little bit of romance just to balance it out.

While I was reading I located information so I found out that the friends don’t have the same bond that they used to and neither does Ellie and Russell. It was breaking apart and then slowly growing again.

After reading this book I really wanted to read more of her books including the rest of the series for e.g, Girls out late, girls in love”, and more.

Reading has taken me on an extravagant journey through girls problems, to making someone eat GREEN EGGS AND HAM!

Reading is probably one of the most enjoyable things to do, it’s relaxing and if your bored of reality jump into a book and go transform.

Eva's Tech Learning Story.

Eva’s Tech Learning Story.
Eating is a necessity, but cooking is an art.

My third and nearly final stop cooking.

During cooking, we made lots of delicious meals. One thing that I found fun was obviously making the meals, not only was it challenging, but it gave me something new to learn about, something new to work on and something new to gain knowledge about.

Something I found challenging was using different measurements for e.g, ¼ and ⅔ etc. I found it challenging because I can get easily confused about which one is which. I think I might need to spend some extra time in the kitchen, just to get my measurements correct. Other than that I feel confident in everything else.

I LOVED making our own pies, it gave us a chance to do what we want and to maybe try something different. We could be very creative about it instead of having to stick to one thing.

I would like to have learned how to make a cake the professional way and not just learn about pastry. But then I think it was good that we learned so many different types of pastry because we can make all types of things using pastry.

Instruments, notes, voice and most of all sound. My final destination music.

E-Asttle T3

BOTTLED UP.

Have you ever felt like no one listens to you, or you feel like you have to keep things like your emotions bottled up inside because no one will understand? Well, this is a story of a beautiful young girl who has some problems and doubts in life but doesn’t know what to do.

“HEY MOVE OUT OF MY WAY!.”

“Sorry.”

“UGH I DON’T WANT YOUR SORRY, I WANT THIS HOMEWORK DONE ASAP!.”

Somethings just don’t go your way I guess. She was struggling at home and at school. She had friends but she still felt like things were hard. When she got home that night she saw her stepfather beating her mother. It was a horrible sight. But what could she do, she was just a 13-year-old girl. So she quickly shuffled into her room without being noticed.

As she sat there she thought about her life, what’s happening around her and is it healthy for her. Her emotions took hold of her that night and she cried herself to sleep.

The next morning she lay in bed, blankets over her face and huddled up in a ball. As she left the house, her back slumped and head hung like a rope that had just fallen. She made her way to school. She sat down in class and started to work. She had not got enough sleep that night, due to the shouting. So she was finding it very hard to concentrate.

During recess she was having a fun time with her friends, forgetting about everything that had gone on last night. Until her bully came. She just ignored her, that was harder than she thought. A few seconds later she was pulled down from the monkey bars and had twisted her wrist. She got up tears sprung from her eyes but she didn’t cry, she just walked away like nothing had happened.

When she got home she put a bandage around her wrist to keep it secure. She wanted to just get a good night sleep, she knew that was impossible. She kept thinking about her bully, her mum and how everything was horrible in life. She needed a way to get out but she didn’t know how. She needed to tell someone.

“AHH!”

It was her mother's scream she knew she had to do something now because her mother couldn’t do anything, she was becoming too weak she could barely get up. So she made up her mind, she wanted to live a normal life with no problems and no more hurting.

When she woke up the next morning, she ran straight out of the house and sprinted to school. She got one of her best friends to come with her and she had a talk with the principal. She told them everything: like why she was failing in her classes, why she has no energy to do things and what was going on at home.

The principal was shocked to hear that she had been getting bullied and that she didn’t even feel safe at home, the principal knew that something had to be done. So she had a talk with the bully and asked her why she was doing this. The bully just said,

“Because it’s the only way I feel like I have power.”

The principal told her many other ways that she could feel powerful without getting the wrong attention, the bullying stopped happening. But there was still one more problem. The school contacted the police and the girl got questioned. She thought it was unnecessary because she just wanted them to go to the house and take him away, never be seen again, but that’s not how it works.

After about 3 weeks, she started to feel what she wanted to feel from the start. Happiness. She had a fresh start, no bullying, no home problems. She felt safe, secure and most of all happy.

By the way, bullying is not ok. Because the girl you call fat -  is starving herself and has lost 30lbs. The boy you just called stupid - he has a learning disability and studies for over 4 hrs a night. The girl you called ugly - she spends hours putting on makeup so people will like her. The boy you just tripped - he’s abused enough at home. That old man you called ugly because of his scars - he fought for our country.

There’s a lot more to people than you think.
So please next time you see someone don’t judge them until you actually know them.

Eva’s Reflection.

I think I was good at taking the opportunity and doing my E-asttle based around something I know lots about (me). I think that it helped me a lot because I knew how that girl felt. So it made it a lot easier for me to imagine myself as the character.

I think I need to work on my punctuation for e.g, putting the last speech mark after the full stop not before. Also trying to add in more breaks for the reader so they’re not out of breath.

Other than that I think it was a pretty good piece of writing.

Eva's Maths Learning Story.

Eva’s Maths Learning story.

“Obvious is the most dangerous word in mathematics.” (Quote by E.T Bell).

3cm

3cm

4.5cm

The problem is asking us to find how many milk cartons can fit in the square box, for e.g what is the volume.

First I multiplied the width, length, and height of the square box. The answer we got was 30,490. We multiplied it together so we could find how wide it was, how tall it was and what the length is.

I did the same to the milk carton to find how big the milk carton was. I got 135.

After that, I wanted to find how many milk cartons would fit in the square box. So I tried to multiply it but then I realized that if I multiply it I would be way too much. So I tried it divide it. The answer I got was 225.86666, then I knew the if you get a number like that then you don’t have to worry about the numbers after the point, so the answer I got was 225.

In my group I think I was good at asking questions for e.g, asking them to explain again, asking them to tell me in an easier way. This helped me to understand my groups thinking and how they help me work it out.

I think I am getting better at sharing the pen, by giving others a chance to share their thinking, so that we all have different ideas that will help us solve the problem.

I feel confident when I share my ideas because I know that it doesn’t matter if my answer is wrong because it might spark someone else's ideas.

Sometimes I find it hard to work on the problem if my whole group isn’t on board because it can be a distraction for me and the rest of my group that is trying to solve the problem. Something I will start doing about that is encouraging them to help us and not distract us.

The K.C skill I used well in maths is participating and contributing because even when the problem is hard I don’t give up and I keep trying to share different ideas even if it’s not right.

The K.C skill I need to work on is relating to others by asking if my group understand the problem, or if they need me to explain it in a different way.

Apart from that, I think I have grown a lot in maths and I hope I keep growing.

Titi's Feedback: You need to work on not blabbing the answers out and to not grab the pen and write your brainy ideas down. You are good at relating to others by asking them if they understand, sharing your clever, clever, clever ideas, handling different roles in your maths group and helping your peers in your group when you and your group share back.

Eva's 3rd Tech Learning story. (Soft Materials)

Eva’s Soft Materials Learning Story.

Prick your finger on a spinning wheel, does that remind you of anything? Well, it does to me, sewing - learning how to make things out of material.

The 3rd subject I was in was soft materials. I find soft materials alright because I may not use it all the time in life but it is still a good skill for me to learn.

Something I found challenging was trying to make my pillow. I chose to put letters on my pillow and it made it a lot harder for me because I had to write it on a piece of fabric, then had to sew it to another piece of paper, but once I got the hang of it I got it pretty easily.

I really enjoyed making the bag because it was something useful and it’s something that I would like to make again. I learned lots of new things while making the bag, for e.g I learned how to do a zig-zag stitch.

Next time I think I would like to learn how to make clothes, or things like that so that I can make something like that as a present. It would also be a really good challenge for me.

The smell, the taste, the experience do you know where I’m going? If not I’ll tell you, I’m going where food is everything.

Swimming Learning Story

Swimming Learning Story.

“This life is like a swimming pool. You dive into the water, but you can’t see how deep it is”. (quote by Dennis Rodman).

Some things are worth learning because they are a life lesson.

Term 3, Week 1

It’s the first week of Term 3 and we are learning how to swim, a life lesson we all have to learn especially if you live around New Zealand. In New Zealand, we need to be able to swim because New Zealand is surrounded by ocean, also because of the many deaths. For e.g in 2016, there were 78 people that had drowned, (intended to be in the water) and non-recreational (no intention of being in the water) preventable drowning fatalities. In 2017 out of the 104 that drowned there were 88 that were preventable. Also in 2018, there were 40 deaths that could have been preventable.

So that’s why I went swimming. The purpose of the swimming lessons was to help us learn how to swim so we can be safe in the water.

During swimming, we learned lots of different swimming styles like backstroke, freestyle, breaststroke, chicken airplane soldier and much more. I liked learning how to breathe properly while swimming, it really helped to know when to take a breath, for e.g turn your head to the side after 3/5 strokes, the reason for this so that you have an easy time to hold your breath and you don’t struggle to breathe.

We also learned about boat safety. While we were learning about boat safety we learned things like how to flip a boat back over, how to balance the boat and how to be safe on the boat.

The K.C skill I used was managing-self because I took the lessons seriously because I know how important water safety is. I also used participating and contributing because I took a risk to do a thing I’m not quite used to, I was stepping out of my comfort zone.

Something I think I could work on is freestyle because my arms get tired but I think I could have pushed myself to keep going and not stop halfway in the lap.

I would love to learn more it was a really good experience and it was also really fun.

Marae Learning Story

Marae Learning story.

“Have you ever stayed the night at a marae before? Well I did on the 20th of june. If you want to know all the details just keep reading”.
Kia ora e hoa ma

Ko Eva Toku ingoa
Tekau ma Rua Aku ta

Ko Ardelle raua ko Helen oku kaiako
Ko Michele te tumuaki
Ko Corinna taku kura

Ko Martine toku whaea
Ko Chris toku matua tane
Ko destiny toku tuakana

Ko te whanganui a tara ahou

Tena koutou, tena koutou, tena ra tatou katoa.

So, that is who I am, where I come from and part of me. I hope we made some connections. Now onto the marae story.

Our purpose for going to the marae was to learn things about the  Maori culture and experience something new. In the end of all this I think we succeeded with the purpose of this trip because I learned so many things.

Haere Mai the karanga/call from the women. The first thing you hear when you walk in the marae. The welcome is a special thing because people are welcoming you into a new environment that you have yet to experience.

After that I helped cooked. We cooked roast veggies, lasagna, soup and apple crumble. It was like a 4 course meal, the roast veggies were a little treat, the soup was appetizers, the lasagna was the main course, and the apple crumble was the delicious dessert.

Something I found hard about cooking was trying to peel the apples for the apple crumble because the apples were really slippery and the peelers were just sliding off of the apple. I really enjoyed it though because I got to spend time with my friends and we made lots of memories cooking.

My favorite part about the marae was when we got to sleep. The reason for this is because I got to experience something new and I also found out what carvings represent Ngati Kahungunu and Ngati Porou.

I thought this trip was a great experience to learn more about my culture. It also gave me a chance to ask lots of questions about the marae and the Maori carvings.

The K.C skills I think I used the most were managing self, because I managed myself when we were cooking without an adult. I also used thinking because I had to think of ways that could help us cook faster.

I think the k.c skill I need to work is relating to others because I did not want to join in for some games for e.g, charades I thought it would be too embarrassing to play so I sat out, other then that I think I was pretty good.

I would love to stay there again it was such a great experience I had the most fun time with everyone.
